Does it hurt?
Most patients say they are surprised that only a slight prick is felt on insertion. Acupuncture uses special type of needles that are about the width of a human hair (1/4 mm diameter), solid and flexible unlike hypodermic needles that are much, much larger and hollow.
I am concerned about the safety of needles?
By law the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the types of needles used for acupuncture. Needles are sterile, enclosed in an individually sealed package, nontoxic and disposed of in a biohazard container after each use.
What happens during the first appointment?
An initial evaluation is performed to get a full health history. Questions will be asked regarding symptoms, health and lifestyle. This information is used to create a complete, accurate and comprehensive diagnosis, after which you may receive a acupuncture treatment, as well as herbal therapy.
How many treatments will be necessary?
The number of treatments depends on the duration, severity and nature of the condition. Acute conditions are sometimes resolved in a few treatments while chronic conditions usually require a series of treatments.
